FLIGHTS TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Hey Everybody,

I am wide awake at 700 am in the morning and thought to write something. The reason for me being awake this early is that i am flying out to the Caribbean, yet again (poor old me!) on an inspection trip with clients this coming Sunday.

I dont know what it is but i get anxious all the time going on a plane. Mind you I have travelled in 747, 727s 737s, big planes, small planes long haul you name it and ive been in it!

I think what really gets me anxious is not the flight itself but the duration and the painstaking process of connecting through different airports.

Unfortunately, Ireland does not offer a direct flight to DR which to me makes geographical sense but i assume its a numbers thing for the airlines.

So far to get to the DR i have had to go through different countries and cities such as france, england, holland, usa.

The AF route is quite easy as i just take a plane to cdg (charles de gaulle) Paris and then a 8.5 hour flight which really annoys me. Has anybody gone to sleep, woken up and think great just one hour to go to find out youve only been flying for 3 hours? happens to me all the time. The second route ive taken is the Manchester route which cheap it is but getting a Ryanair flight which charges you i dare to say even for sneezing is just to debilitating.

Surprised as i am to say for me the best way is going through JFK in New York, although i have to overnight there, i have plenty of friends and family living in the big apple so i dont mind staying there for the night.

Now, internal flights in the country are another different enchilada altogether! Aerodomca in the city has very much pretty regular flights only for 75 bucks to go from the city to Samana. There are also other domestic airlines such as volair which can fly you punta cana samana or punta cana santo domingo.

The last time i was flying it was just myself and the pilot in a little 4 seater plane. I was sitting in the co pilot seat. For me it used to be terrifying but now its such fun! I asked the pilot how much would a plane like that cost (old 80s plane) he said around 60k but the maintenance is the one that kills you.

I am touting with the idea of buying a small plane for the company, leasing it out to one of the airlines to cover maintenance costs and then using for my inspection trips.

Any thoughs anyone?

Annie
